Why does personal branding photography have to send you to sleep?

Sometimes looking at the camera with a slim smile just doesn’t quite cut it.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you probably have some sort of interesting personality and generally people don’t sit across from you at the pub and fall asleep the second you say something. Was I right?

Same applies to your website. If it’s drab, dull and snooze-inducing then you’re just never going to get those customers chomping at the bit to chat to you.

What if you tried something new with your branding photographs?

I’m talking, grab a power suit with a cape and jump in the sauna… I did this with Ambreen and she looked powerful. We belly laughed and got to collaboratively play with different poses and ideas until we got some absolute corkers that make her feel on top of the world.

The joy of feeling great about your photos and having a great experience is that you want to share those photos. You want to tell people what you do and you actively share your super power with the world. Whether you’re a therapist, a coach, a hairdresser, an illustrator, a website designer or anything in the world, your customers need to know you exist and then connect with you online. You know what makes a great conversation starter - “is that a sauna…?” Then boom. You’re chatting about something interesting - an exciting experience that lights you up when you talk about it - and creating a genuine and interesting connection with a potential client. Winning.

Ambreen was living her best life when we took a power suit, a cape, a flash gun and my camera into a sauna. (The sauna wasn’t on, don’t panic!)

Now maybe a sauna isn’t your vibe. That’s ok. What if we messed around with some confetti, played with tulle or grabbed a sequin jacket?

Emma, Carly and Cheryl all had ENERGY in their shoots. Leading to soul led, exciting photos.

Or basked in the sun?

Poppy and Amy embraced the natural world in a way that felt so deep, intimate and full of expression.

Or grabbed a ballgown?

When Rosie turned up with a bright red gown and the lipstick of dreams I knew we were about to create absolute magic.

Or made a sun soaked field your playground?

Anita danced like no one was watching channeling an inner goddess vibe and the results are so full of joy and emotion. I’ll show you more from this shoot soon!

My point is that personal branding photography for small business owners doesn’t have to be boring. You can have creative portraits taken that you feel joy every time you see them.

But just because I’ve said ‘creative portraits’ it doesn’t mean you have to jump in a lake in full water nymph mode (although I’m game if you are) it could be as simple as playing with a scarf, getting out the bubbles, doing something with fairy lights or even just giving full energy to add movement and excitement to your photos.

So hit me up with a creative idea or lets have a virtual coffee and a brainstorm about what kind of photos might start the conversations with your clients. I can’t wait to hear from you.

Looking for a branding photography shoot? I’m Hertfordshire based but I actively work in London (like a lot, so I know some great spots to shoot!) and I travel the whole of the UK in my little car tent. It’s a vibe. So get in touch today and lets get you those scroll stopping photos.

Pssst. I shoot video too. So you could get a film or a bit of both. Think about it!
